Secure Your Router

Somewhere around 60-70% of all wireless routers are unsecured which is extremely dangerous.

Why is it dangerous to leave your router unsecured?

Because hackers, malicious strangers and even your neighbors have open access to your router and can do whatever they want with your internet connection. Worse yet you are legally responsible for anything they download on your connection which could be illegal. When they trace where illegal downloads of copyrighted material are being downloaded, guess where it stops? That's right, your router's IP address which is always assigned to you and always tracked by ISPs (Internet Service Providers). The real person doing the downloading is not usually tracked because Routers use a service to hide all the PC's that are connected to them.
The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and (RIAA Recording Industry Association of America) are actively seeking and suing people involved in illegal downloading of music and movies.

In addition other people using your router without your permission are stealing your bandwidth that you are paying for. Get enough people connected to your router doing downloads and it will slow it down to a crawl.

Don't let this happen to you, turning on the security features of your router can effectively stop this kind of activity.

Unfortunately setting up the security features of the router is not for the faint of heart technically and it requires that the settings between the router and any wireless computers that want to connect to it match precisely.  Until they make this easier for the layman to do we recommend you have us to do this for you. It will save you much frustration and time.
